Mixed Media Artist

In my search for digital/analog artists, I found many interesting contenders. Michel Keck is a mixed media artist who's works include mixed media collages. On this website, his works are being sold for thousands of dollars. Who knew?

I was also rather drawn to these collages, however I fail to see any credit given as to whom the artist is.

These are a few photos from the motion/depth of field/ISO/white balance project that I didn't use as my final submissions. I took these while shooting for the project, but mostly they were just for kicks, rather than seriously considered for the project. (Gotta keep things alive when you're utterly bogged down with projects...)

This one obviously is of the exterior walkway of Trabant. I think it was originally part of a depth of field set, but I liked the way it captured the motion and mass of the crowd.

Clearly one word comes to mind here: perspective. I liked looking up from the base of the light pole to the view of the wires and the blue sky behind it. I also like the slight lens vignetting (unintentional) that showed up in the image.

This is from my exciting outing with Adam and Alyssa after design one night. We walked down to Old College to take some photos and this one was a complete mistake. Not realizing how long I had my shutter speed set to, I took this picture of the back of Old College while walking. I paused, shot, kept walking, and put my camera back down to hang on my neck all before the shutter clicked closed and this is what came out. Who'd have thought?

This assignment has really given me the chance to get to know my camera better, which has been a surprising and educational journey this past week. From panning in class to shooting blurred headlights at night, I've become better acquainted with my camera's functions and settings and how to use them more effectively than simply point and shoot.

A Random Sampling

Just a couple random photos from the last couple days that I kind of took a liking to.

First, this one of the leaves from behind Mechanical Hall. I liked the way that the leaves were in focus, while the field in the background was blurry and the way the leaves sort of framed the shot from the side.

Next, one of Katie, who was kind enough to help out our Digital Media class last week with practice panning shots. Thanks, Katie!

And finally, I was experimenting with depth of field at the bike rack in the back of Ray Street and came out with this shot that I sort of liked, especially in black and white.

Some Rejected Self-Portraits

Of all the many self-portraits we were assigned to take, it was somewhat difficult to choose only three. Here's a small sampling of some that didn't make the final cut.

Inaugural Post

Perhaps not the best quality, but it's a starting point.  Not bad for my first day of shooting in class, I'd like to think.
Those in my section of ART 116 will likely recall our first session "in the field," as we all learned how to hold our camera, format our memory cards, and set the color modes (some, taking the camera out of it's box for the first time ever) as we sat beneath a quickly darkening sky.
Sitting on the bricks behind Recitation Hall, I was intrigued by the illuminated blue light glowing against the grey of the stormy sky.  Taken briefly before the downpour began, this is just a simple snapshot and one of my first experimentations with my new toy learning instrument.
